Fitting Porsche C4S Rear Bumper to C2/C4 Carrera 996 911

When I bought my 1998 Porsche 996 Carrera2/C2 it was fitted with a GT2 style front bumper and what looked like a turbo or C4S rear bumper.

Fairly soon after purchase I managed to purchase replacement front & rear bumpers. The front bumper was an easy replacement and the old one got sold on eBay.

I found that the front bumper was fibreglass and a bit of a mess underneath so decided to change that back to standard which was fairly easy to do. I needed to do some adjustment to the wheel arch liners and get some new clips to attach the bumper underneath the car but it worked ok once I'd bought a replacement.

Unfortunately the rear bumper was a bit more difficult. I discovered that the Porsche 996 C4S bumper has exhaust holes in a different location to the standard C2 and mine also has dual tail pipes. The C4S muffler pipes are more central, just to the sides of the number plate but the C2 exhaust tips exit near the corners of the bumper as can be seen in the photos below.

As such I didn't fit the replacement 996 C2 bumper that I'd bought as I would have needed to replace/reconfigure the exhaust system as well as getting the bumper repainted.

In the meantime I've managed to get the 996 C4S rear bumper to fit the Carrera 2 much better. It's still not flush as the bumper is for the wider bodied car but the difference isn't as much as you'd expect.

There is about 5mm additional overhang on each side at the wheel arch when it's fitted and a similar amount below the rear lights but many people wouldn't notice that it's not the bumper than should be on the car. It's quite well fitted at the bottom edge where there are metal spacer bars/brackets to connect the holes for the bumper to the fittings on the car. Other than that most of the bumper holes line up with the ones in the bodywork so the bumper can be attached.
