The hinge on the centre console of the Porsche Boxster and 996 is made of plastic and prone to breaking if the lid is opened too far. Porsche charge £35 for a replacement hinge kit but I fixed mine with a £2 hinge from eBay. You'll need a 2.5"/63mm hinge with 5 equally spaced elements
I used a Dremel to remove the centre part of the hinge so that it would fit and replace the plastic part on the car. You can see the full process on YouTube here
