A problem that I had with my 911 was that the bonnet/hood has an electrically powered release mechanism so the battery needs to be powered to release it. If the battery is dead for any reason there is a terminal inside the car where you can connect a power supply to reactivate the release switch however this relies on the continuity of the circuit. If the battery is disconnected then it won't work.
This video shows how to open the bonnet/hood if the battery is disconnected by using a release handle underneath the 911 wheel arch.
The diary of a Porsche 911 and former 944 Owner. I have now bought a 1998 Porsche 911 having previously owned a 2001 model 911 Carrera 2 and 1986 Porsche 944. This car is an early 996 C2 coupe with 3.4 engine/manual transmission and cable throttle. This is intended to document my experiences with the Porsche 911 over time including any problems and the running costs of maintaining a 21 year old Porsche 911
